Dear friends,
Here are a few links to some videos I thought would be nice to share with all of you. They are videos from the massive concert we just played a week ago in the border of Colombia and Venezuela as a call to peace between nations and the area. It was a very emotional day for all of us because of the cause of the event. We all out a great amount of energy and positive vibe into this project. I played for 5 hours straight with all the artists that were convoked that afternoon and still ended with a big smile on my face. I hope you can take a few minutes of your time so you can see what I mean about this being a special day.
Best regards to all and as always, my biggest thanks too.

Hello...and Happy belated Easter / Spring Equinox to everyone -
I haven't sent out an update in a while... just wanted to let everyone know some of what I've been up to:
I just filled in for Shawn Pelton on Saturday Night Live (March 15th)... I've played on the show before with a musical guest (Annie Lennox) and once as an actor (I played a drummer in a sketch... that was a real stretch), but this was my first time drumming in the house band...
I played drums, percussion, and did production on the latest Avril Lavigne single, "Hot"...
I also produced a dance remix of "Hot" (the aforementioned single), and she's performing my remix version of the song live on her 2008 tour...
I also worked on other tracks on Avril's album, including the 1st single, "Girlfriend", which was a #1 hit all over the world...
I produced a remix for a Johnny Cash remix album which is being overseen by his son, John Cash Jr. I'm also featured in a DVD on the making of the album, where I'm interviewed in my home studio.
I played drums, percussion, and did production on Leona Lewis' debut album, "Spirit". For those of you who don't know who she is yet, she recently broke the record for fastest-selling debut album of all time, in the UK, where she's already a huge star. (She won "X Factor" which is the latest incarnation of American Idol over there) Her album has already sold over 2 million records worldwide... Her debut single was just released in the US, and is already a top 10 hit here (should go to #1 soon), The album will be released in the US in April.
I did production and programming on the Sugababes' (another huge British act) new album, including the 1st single, "About You Now", which was a #1 hit in the UK this summer.
I just did some drumming in the studio for producer / artist Mark Ronson, who recently won the Grammy for producer of the year... (he produced Amy Weinhouse... and many others).
I played drums on upcoming debut albums for new artists Katy Perry (Capitol) and Tina Parol (Universal).
I'm still writing my electronics column, "Digital Domain", in DRUMHEAD magazine... which just celebrated it's first year anniversary... and is going very strong...
hope everyone's doing great... and hope to see you all soon...
best,
Wolf

Wally Gater Watson
Hi guys ... This summer, I am going to be producing and hosting a talk show called "Groove Masters". It is going to be both entertaining and educational. We will be having guest artists like Liberty Devitto, Will Calhoun, Hank Jones and yes, myself doing interviews, Playing, and sharing some tips. We will also have a fitness segment with drummer / certified trainer George Gray and nutrition tips from bassist Stanley Banks.
Our initial broadcast area will be in Brooklyn, New York. We have already gotten agreements to broadcast in Manhattan and Queens. This will be produced at the studios of BCAT (Brooklyn Community Access Television). It is our hope to refine the show and get it on to major networks.
I am inviting you all to submit emails with questions that you would like to have asked of our guests. Please send your emails to me. This will help me in making this the most informative show for drummers and other musicians as well. I will post the airing date of the first show here.

Kenny Aronoff
This week, Rhythm Tech Artist Relations Director, Pam caught up with Kenny at LaVeLee... he was playing with a fun blues band.

it was the bass player's birthday... "Happy Birthday To You..."

Note... this is a transcription from audio done at the end of the gig, with lots of folks interrupting to say good nite... :
"... Started off December after Christmas - I flew out here (Los Angeles) on the 26th, from 3 days working with this killer band called 'Like A Storm' - kinda ala Zeppelin, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Bon Jovi ... you know, 'cause of the melodies.
Then I went and did ... let's see... so many records I've done... I've done this girl, Sarah Thiele .. I did that up in Sedona. Great keyboard player, singer, songwriter, amazing... like a Norah Jones with a blues but rock / r&b thing ...
I did a Walter Trout record, a great blues artist. 16th album...
And the thing about all these records I've been doing lately is I've really stretched out and tried to be as diverse as possible with the grooves and beats, kinda out of the box, trying to stretch the album out ... See, a lot of times, these singer-songwriters or these artists tend to write the same rhythm, the same kind of approach to writing a song - so my job is to try to ... I try to stretch it out and give them diversity on the album.
I did the Grammy's with John Fogerty, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. I did another show during the Grammy's with a whole bunch of different artists
I did a Brent Lundy session (a new artist out of the Carolina's). I did a session with Jon Peter Lewis - he was a runner-up on American Idol, an incredible record that's really great pop rock songs. I did his whole record. About 3 years ago he was one of the main guys in American Idol ... incredible singer. I've been working on Rob Thomas' solo record with Matt Serletic ... and Matt also has me on a new record. They're calling it Project X, but it's 2 guys and 2 girls ... incredible songwriters. I've been doing that record ...
Doing some American Idol stuff, some songs for American Idol ...
Did a whole bunch of stuff in January... did J R Richardson, who's the singer from Dishwalla ... I did his new record.
I'm going to go to Nashville to do a Platinum Recording Artist - Jake Owen. I'm doing his new solo record. I'm going to Houston Rodeo with John Fogerty and then I'm gonna go tour Austrailia for 2 weeks with John Fogerty.
Did a couple other artists ... people who send me their DVDs / hard drives and I record their stuff, different people from ... one guy from Canada, another guy from Atlanta, and I did a whole German record that way ... where they sent me the DVD ...
And I'm starting an artist tomorrow by the name of Leah, a german artist. I'm doing her whole record tomorrow ...
So I've been pretty busy for a time where recording is tough. What I'm trying to do is to convince people not to record in their home studios, but to go to studios and get great engineers and great studios and get... I personally think I perform better in a recording studio with an engineer ... and at the very least if I can get a bass player that'd be great. And that's something - a football player plays better on a real football field rather than like in anything other than that - and that's what I'm trying to push. Everybody's very very responsive and receptive, too. They think it's great, because my feeling is that you can't score goals if you're not on the field. You're on the bench! What you wanna do on a bench!? I'm not a bencher... I'm not a bench-warmer. I like to be on the field. You know. It's not all about money, it's about what my love is and my love is playing drums and being a musician ... "

This week, Rhythm Tech Artist Relations Director, Pam caught up with Richie outside LaVeLee... he was picking up a bass guitar for one of his sons' upcoming birthday :
" ... was at a rehearsal... I'm mostly touring, on the road ... playing with a Persian group, this big Persian star. I have to go to Dubai next at the end of the month. ... and Diana Ross and Patty LaBelle. My son (Roland) is my sub so when I don't make 'em, my son goes and plays. He's studying at CSUN. ... I sent him about a year and a half ago to sub for me with Patty and she loved him!

HI Peoples!
My first day of class at the boys and girls club was spectacular!
It was a great day of food, drums and dance! That's right, even dance... lol..
After class, we had a jam session. My dear friend Gerson had his friends playing bass, guitar and trumpet. Then we ended with a Fun Comparsa Jam where my mom led the whole class into a Conga! She choreographed the whole session!
Leroy Chase (Director of the club) and his family participated with such warmth and sincere appreciation of Cuban music. They gave me some pretty roses as well.
I'll be sending some pictures soon.
Thank you to all my dear friends that came out and supported: Ricky Carrido, David Mora and Margaret Chacon. Thank you to all my endorsement comapnies: Remo, Sabian, Vic Firth, Rhythm Tech, Hasenfutz and DW.
This was a beautiful day to remember and I look forward to more.
We will continue Rumba Class every Saturday. Hope to see some of you there!
Much blessings!

Just sending out a 2007 update to you.
Another year filled with a variety of special and exciting playing opportunities.
The year started out with an invitation to audition for Angelique Kidjo. Iím sad to say that I didn't get the gig, but it was a honor to have been invited ....... .and next time .....!!!!
I performed at Lincoln Center (Avery Fisher Hall) at a sold out fundraiser for 'HASC' (totally sold out, with top ticket prices $750) and they recorded the concert and released a DVD from the concert. What a wonderful feeling it was to play the stage where I'd watched Miles Davis, the N.Y. Philharmonic, and many others perform while growing up.
Now there is news about the recording I did with Lou Montelione (a funk / jazz CD recorded in the 'A' room at Quad Studios for JazzHeads Records with renown engineer Bruce A. Miller on the sliders). Lou's first album featured John Stubblefield and was well received and, so, people are looking forward to his sophomore effort. The label has slated release of this album for May 2008 and we hope to play some festivals to support it's release.
On the opposite end of the musical spectrum, I did some hard rock recording with A & R Select artist and Award wining poet Dave Karais. I'll let you know what comes from the demos.
Then to round things out:
I have done some subbing as drum set instructor at York College.
There has also been concert work on the oldies circuit, again. I'm one of the Musical Directors / Conductors (and drummers) for The Chantels, and Iíve backed Kid Kyle and Frankie Ford ('Sea Cruise', etc.) in numerous concerts.
'Great Googley Moo': I did the Equity Showcases for this play, featuring numerous Broadway and film veterans working to bring this show to Broadway. I was also the Assistant Musical Director. Of course, in the path of all plays - raising funds. To help address that problem, one of New Jersey's most venerable theaters absorbed much of the cost of a reading, where producers could come and see the potential in this play. As a result, that theater, The Crossroads Theater, had scheduled the play for a run in March / April 2008. I've just found out that the run is being re-scheduled (what else is new?!). So weí'e still moving forward and excited about it.
There was a special night of music when I performed with Asha Puthli at an 'Art after 5' concert at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Their roster of guest artists made me humble to have been a part of their Festival. Aziza Miller (from Natalie Cole's group) was on piano and Jason King (head of the Clive Davis School of Recorded Arts) ran and jammed on computer tracks. Her 30 years in the music and movie business makes for an exciting event whenever we play together. After all, she has worked with Ornette Coleman, Sean 'Puffy' Combs, Teo Macero, Andy Warhol, and Bollywood!!!!!
Besides those events, I'm always as busy as possible teaching and playing Jewish concerts, theater, blues, rock, funk, jazz, Classic Rock, fusion, and club dates - percussion or drum set, when the phone rings, I'm HAPPY!
Till next time!
Roy Weinberger

2007 in review:
401 gigs / sessions. That's the most ever for me in a year.
More of those gigs were on television then in previous years.
A couple dozen records (Records - NOT Demos).
WAY more travel dates (SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, LA, Seattle, Portland, EVERY state in the Southeast..... & CUBA!) sorry no cigars
2007 was by far my busiest year ever and my most profitable.
I think the coolest thing though was seeing so many people that I work with get deals this year.

It was a great year for my artists.
They are the stars of tomorrow, and it's wonderful to be "in on the ground level ".
It's also good to occasionally work with the people that YOU know (Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Cindy Morgan, 3 Doors Down, Chuck Cannon) Thanks to Muzik Mafia I even played with Bobby Brown and Dee Snyder on the Gone Country TV show.
The songwriter community has responded well to the hybrid percussion / drum set up. (Djembe, Kick, Hand Snare, Hi-Hat, Cymbals, Tambourine, Auxiliary Percussion) People are hiring me specifically to do that thing.
I think I have found my "niche".

Hello everyone,
... I have been working very closely with Toontrack on a new multitrack drum library called Superior 2.0 that we feel will revolutionize people's idea of how absolutely realistic multitrack programmed drums can sound. The drums were recorded by myself, Pat Thrall and Neil Dorfsman at Avatar Studios (Studio A), Allaire Studios, and the now defunct Hit Factory (Studio One, NYC). If you want to check out a preview of the program go to the link below:

Here I am in the midst of my rehearsal for the up coming trip to Edmunton to record a CD with Asani and the legendary Ed Mann ( Frank Zappa).

Its been rather cold here in the east during December, January, but as you can see... with my signature Promarks in hand and man's best mate Bixbie the world famous dog... all's well that ends well....
On Tour with The Irish Rovers
Here is a picture that was taken at the Auditorium in Thunder Bay Ontario on the last night of the Tour. (you can see more pictures in the Images Section) It was an amazing trip and a real privilege to perform with The Legendary Band the Irish Rovers . I have been listening to these guys for the last 40 odd years and it was such a thrill to actually play with them. They are master musicians, and pros, each night was exciting and full of fun. The two original Members George Millar and Wilcil McDowell are a true testament to the wonders of Traditional Irish music, and consumate musicians. Ian Millar has great timing and is a very cool bass and guitar player. John Reynolds apart from being one of the funniest guys I've ever met, is an awesome guitarist, he played some amazing solos... and some pretty mean bass as well. What can one say about Sean O'Driscoll, the multi talented multi musician, plays bazookie, mandolin, banjo and tin whistle, world class.
We played a sold out tour and signed "zillions" of autographs, I think the thing that impressed me most apart from the music and the Irish Rovers themselves was the age range of those attending the shows, from young to old and all inbetween, the Legend grows, the warmth and genuine love of the fans for the band and its music truly amazed me.
Bruce to record with Asani and Ed Mann
I am about to head to Edmonton to record the last Asani CD. Ed Mann is producing and playing on it as well. What an amazing project to be invited to.
Asani are the most amazing vocalists I've ever heard, their harmonies and vocal rhythms are just amazing and send the spirit of music through ones entire being. I first met Asani at a festival in Eskasoni on Cape Breton Island, and immediately invited them to perform at the Cape Breton Int Drum Fest... they sing, and play traditional frame drums.... needless to say they brought the house down and received a standing ovation.
Ed Mann, what can one say, one of life's amazing people, with a wonderful heart and love of good for mankind. I admire Ed not just for his music but for having the courage of his convictions. He has a feel of empowerment about him and is humble yet very wise in so many ways. Musically he's at the top of the tree and its incredible to know I have Ed as a life friend.
Asani, Ed and myself are touring New Zealand in September 2008.

Voyce McGinley
Wishing you much peace, love, success and happiness in 2008!
I am finally getting settled in from the first leg of Kitaro's Love and Peace World Tour. We performed all over South East Asia, including sold out shows in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. We also performed at the Bangkok Jazz Festival (for the King of Thailand's birthday).
Kitaro was featured in the December 2007 issue of Keyboard magazine. Our band picture can be found on page 40. I have some temporary tour pictures posted on my mypace page until the concert photos and DVD arrive via Domo Records Management.

Dony Wynn
One and all,
I'm very happy to announce that in this last year I finally emerged from my six year long self exile. A corner has been turned!!! Life has taken on new purpose and function, which is why I went into self exile in the first place, to realign certain elements under my jurisdiction, embrace new avenues open to me, to be able to take on new projects with renewed enthusiasm and focus. This year past doors kept opening and because of my time in the trenches I was ready for the challenges.
Was a year of firsts, too. Finally got a cell phone (egads!). Started a new band (Knuckle Yummy). Lost a companion (Lily). Worked on several projects with people who inspired me to the nth! Great new friends entered my life. Got to see my entire family after 7 years of not being able to. Surrounded by talented people who totally inspire me.
Consider me back in the slipstream and armed for bear.
And yet another first is I'm announcing today a new website I've built which will demonstrate that even though disappeared from the world, I've not exactly been twiddling my thumbs. Been plowing ahead in my solitude with all the talents under my hood.
With networking so prevalent on the Web now I thought it time to expand my talents beyond Austin borders where I now live. Time to expand the horizons. So I am.
The addie is www.donywynn.com
In there you'll find short stories, photos, songs in which I've banged on stuff, plus a growing catalogue of songs I've produced and mixed, too. Wacky stuff all... far from the norm............
Boy is officially back in the saddle.
Spread the word.

Unique uses of Rhythm Tech products :
Alex Alexander - "I use Rhythm Tech products with guitar effects pedals, creating new sounds never heard before! I also like to have around the kit so i can play them as the occasion arises."
Frank Bellucci - "I play the tambourine & bells with my feet. They are mounted to the foot pedal attachment."
Mike Bennett - "Nothing unusual but I'm learning to always carry a Rhythm Tech Shaker & Hat Trick with me at all times. They always come in handy when adding color and character to a tune on stage and in the studio!"
Brendan Buckley - "I dig using the crasher as a disco hi hat."
CanUnDrum - "... discovered that by attaching The Laptop to the open end of a bucket that we can achieve a snare-like sound allowing us to play it like any "real" drum and thereby keep true to our "un-drum" theme."
Jeff Consi - "I sometimes mic up and use the Laptop for a funky 16th note overdub w/ brushes."
Richard Crooks - "Shakers taped to sticks. Use any hardware including floor tom legs for mounting ... percussion gear."
Adam Culvey - "Let's see... last week I was carrying my Smoky Blue Canz shaker in my back pocket while hauling the solo artists' 120 lb keyboard. When someone asked me, 'hey, I thought you played percussion', I simply shook my rear (in time, of course)."
Kenwood Dennard - "Coordinating shaker instead of a ride cymbal"
John Ferraro - "l like to hold the maraca with a stick to create a LOOP like feel for grooves. Also I use it for latin feels. I love the handle, it is easy to hold, nice balance. The Lap Top is really great for practice, teaching and recording"
Shannon Ford - "Tape a jingle shake to a loose snare drum with the snares off for a nasty backbeat!"
Gigi - "During a percussion gig, I play timbales, congas, bongo, and many of the RT percussion instruments. I find that mounting most of my RT percussion on one cymbal stand via the mounts makes it easy to play as well as to transport."
Paul Gonzalez - "I have a Computer Keyboard placed inside one of my Mountable Gig Trays... which is then mounted to a cymbal stand on my Studio Kit. It allows me to record myself, and be my own engineer without leaving my drum throne!"
Erik Hargrove - "Hitting two shakers together on the ends in rhythmic ways along with shaking them."
Carlos Hatem - "I attached the original hi-hat tambourine ring to a bass drum pedal without the beater for a foot operated tambourine"
Charles Heath - "I sometimes use my tambourines on my toms and snare to get various colors"
Brian Melick - "Stack them so that one sound is sympathetic to the other. Very abstract and unusual"
Voyce McGinley - "I often borrow visual elements from the pandeiro and riq styles of playing to use on my RT tambourines. I also mount a pair of RT tambourines onto a Gajate pedal to add clave, back-beat, or other syncopated accents whenever I play hand-drums. For pedal usage, I cable-tie a pair of RT tambourines together to create greater stability and volume."
Stanton Moore - "I've been using the Englehart stuff in the galactic set up. I've got contact mics on the reco reco and lens drum and am running them through a few different effects (flanger, phaser etc.) they sound killin'."
Cary Nasatir - "I have the Skratcher mounted on my RT Timbales. I also use the Crasher mounted on my vintage Leedy one-piece cocktail set. It subs well for a closed hi hat sound."
Rafael Padilla - " ...i've been using your Tambs for the last 20 years in every session i've ever done, and also on every tour i've done. They're Simply the Best"
Kurt Rasmussen - "The Crashers are great for the "World Style" music of Cirque do Soleil. They're also great for our clown acts! Clowns dig their sound a lot more than traditional cymbal crashes and slap sticks. I love to use them for "Punching The Clown"
Kevin Rice - "I often stuff several Eggz shakers into my left sock for cool shaker effect. Besides being cool shakers the Fruits are also good for a laugh when unassuming folks go in for a bite."
Winston Roye - "I just picked up the RT Pro tambourine. It sounds great! I use it instead of hi-hat for one tune and the extra amount of jingles, and the slightly rubbery top surface makes it mix perfectly through the hat mike."
David Sanger - "The Laptop was perfect for European travel. We showed up at a live radio taping with no drums. Out came the laptop and 'viola!' "
Mike Smith - "Often I play a 16th note pattern on the metal shakers while striking it with the tambourine on beats 2 & 4... & also varying those rhythms. I use the hand held cabasa as well as the mounted one... I spin the handheld w/an up down motion & play another pattern on the mounted one w/ my hand, as well as striking it with a stick or triangle beater to create different sounds / colors. These r just a few things I do. Always trying to come up w/ new ways to get different sounds / textures."
Jason Sutter - "I play the tamb with my feet for acoustic shows as a bass drum... on the floor (no mount)"
Charlie Zeleny - "Taking Eggz shakers and placing them on little egg holders and putting them on display on shelf in my studio for decoration between sessions."
