Daniel de los Reyes
Producer (Drummer and Percussionist) Daniel de los Reyes
Named Rhythm Creator for new ìRaw Talent Liveî Las Vegas production
Producer (Drummer and Percussionist) Daniel de los Reyes has been chosen by innovative producer and visionary Nicole Durr (ND) to create and choreograph the dramatic and high energy Rhythm Section for the much anticipated and well received 'Raw Talent Live' show at the Sahara in Las Vegas. Robin Leach sums up 'Raw Talent Live' in his Las Vegas Weekly blog:
"It may be the most extraordinary show ever staged in Vegas . . . it should be on a world stage as a pop-opera, either at New York's Madison Square Garden or the 02 Stadium in London, or as a dance drama at New York's Lincoln Center . . . Your ears will revel in the original music, songs and dances . . . It's a magnificent feast of everything from Latin gusto to Havana Nights brass with solo sopranos thrown in to even heighten the experience of thrills and chills down your spine as your skin gets goosebumps."

For "Raw Talent Live" show information, photo gallery, audio and video clips, visit their official website: www.rawtalent.com
In addition, Daniel has been in the studio and recorded several tracks with the popular rock band The Killers on their upcoming "Day & Age" CD due in stores this November.

Garett Buell
Recent news -
Just completed a record for a Swedish singer songwriter, Alice Bange playing drums and perc (making extensive use out of Rhythm Tech shakers and Peter Englhart percussion)
Recorded Percussion for Nashville artist, Katy Herzig on her latest album, receiving lots of attention in mainstream AAA radio market
Recorded Percussion and kit loops for Houston Songwriter, Aaron Senseman, for his latest album. Aaron is one of Caedmons songwriters, who has had a couple of #1 Single's in the Christian Market with us over the years.
Completed some more live dates for Caedmons (my band for the past 16 years - caedmonscall.com) with two more left this fall. (great turnouts, we had around around 4000 in TX a couple of wks ago)
Caedmons had a single from our latest album, Overdressed on Grey's Anatomy in the season finale. "Ten Thousand Angels" played in the final scene for an unprecedented minute and a half last season...
Recorded a DVD with Houston artist, Kemper Crabb a couple of years ago, playing percussion. It is being planned for air by PBS in most major markets for the christmas season this year...
Dont know if I mentioned playing perc for David Wilcox on his latest, Vista, released last year I think...
Also another album last year, playing perc with Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, my 4th I believe.
The first, "Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir Live, This is Your House" won a Grammy in 2004 for Gospel Choir or Chorus Album...
I am currently gearing up for this years annual christmas tour with Andrew Peterson, including 19 dates in late Nov, early Dec with our usual stop at the Ryman Nashville, looks like it will be sold out this year. These shows usually sell out across the East and SouthEast US, with roughly 2000 - 3000 in regular attendance.
Last year I joined SESAC for my publishing home and signed a contract with Blue Water Music for administration. I am currently working on a catalogue for TV, radio and film that Blue Water will use for sync play contracts.
Hope all is well with you and Rhythm Tech!
PS -- I love the new tambourine design and am looking forward to picking one or two up along with the mount for some hands on! Great idea and perfect execution! Just what I have been needing over the years as I have put too much money into tambourines for mounting and handheld, both which add bulk to my cases and setup... so thanks to you, problem solved!
Sincerely,

Hey Conga People of the world!
I hope you are having a beautiful Autumn.
This weeks episode of "Dexter" is called "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". You can hear Bermudez Triangle tune "Songo De Bermudez" in the background while Jmmy Smits and Michael C. Hall (Dexter) talk about the murderous secret they share. The scene is shot on the beach in Miami.
I wrote this tune with (Steve Goldstein) and talented vocalist Elizabeth Lamers. She has very sweet vocal performance on the track.
This is the 3rd time Bermudez Triangle musica has appeared on the show.
We send our thanks to Music Supervisor Gary Calamar for supporting Bermudez Triangle musica on "Dexter".

Larry Washington
We are very excited to share with you what Rhythmworkz was involved in up in Reno last week.
An opportunity was made available for Larry Washington, Joe Alessandro, Mike Sims and Kevin Flournoy to lead some clinics & classes, and perform at assemblies in two schools in the Washoe County School District in Reno. The initial contact was developed by Traner Middle School Arts teacher Cynthia Ford, who arranged a meeting for us with the principals of both Traner and Hug High School. Peggy Paarmann of Rhythmworkz, who lives in Reno, set up and coordinated all of the appearances, and was instrumental in keeping things running smoothly.
Our amazing journey began on Tuesday, September 24th, at Hug High School. There we met and shared knowledge with the Percussion Class, and Drum Line. In that class, led by teacher Joe Savage, we met some incredibly talented kids, among them Desmond Washington, Vidal Smith, and Keenan Davis. They really made an impression, playing for us, rapping and sharing their excitement and passion for music.
Then on Thursday, September 26th, Lauren Ford, principal of Traner, and Lisa Castro, the music instructor, hosted us for an all-school assembly of 600 kids, which Larry and friends played for, and offered some instruction and motivation as well. This was an amazing event: kids who were so excited to see us that the decibel level from their enthusiastic cheers was louder than the music! Andy Kelly, principal of Hug High School was instrumental in getting the Reno Gazette Journal to cover the assembly, which resulted in a very large article, accompanied by two photos in the paper the day following the assembly. Here is the link to that article:
http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008809260461
That same afternoon Andy and the team from Hug hosted us in the Little Theater for an assembly of 220 kids, including the ones we had met during our earlier visit. Larry & Joe shared skills, stories, and inspired the kids, two of which came up and rapped for the group, generating huge applause from their peers. There were so many very special kids we met there, all of which really encouraged and inspired us to want to do more to reach out and help more kids in schools all over the country.
On Rhythmworkz last day in Reno, September 27th, Larry and Joe were guests at Traner's band and music classes for a day, which included lunch in the cafeteria. There, Larry and Joe were surrounded by students who wanted to ask questions, get autographs and just enjoy their company. They left the school still hungry for lunch, but very satisfied and gratified by the response of the kids.
Due to the generosity of friends like you, we were able to donate a pair of Paiste marching Cymbals to the Hug High School Drum Line, and 25 complete packages of information to the Drummers and Percussionists at Hug High as well. We also were able to donate a Pearl Snare drum with stand, and a complete set of DB Mesh Head Practice Pads to Traner Middle School. Thank you to Deborah Washington, Tomo Meek, KJZS, Rhythm Tech, Audix, Paiste, Pearl, Apple, Voice Crysta;, Vic Firth, Treeworks, Protection Racket and Phatfoot -- your support made a difference in the lives of well over 1000 kids!! And this is just the beginning
We look forward to reaching out across this country to many more kids, just like those we met during our days in Reno. The impact of these visits will be felt in many ways for years to come, and if the kids reactions were any indication, they now have a new appreciation for music and education, which will guide them into their very bright futures.
Sincerely,
The Rhythmworkz team

Hey guys,
hope this e-mail finds you well...
Keeping in touch and letting you know some of the stuff I am working on.
I started working on a project called "Ring Of Fire" with Tony Macalpine on guitar (Steve Vai), Philp Bynoe on bass (Steve Vai) and Mark Collie on vocals (Yngwie Malmsteeng).
I'm very exited about this project and hopefully by the end of the year the new record will be done and by March or April hit the road to promote it.
I'm also collaborating on a record for an italian project called "Groovido" as a guest in the band (with two drummers!). This record along with Ring Of Fire's reord, will produce lots of material and ideas for great clinics witch I am also working towards.
In the mean time I would like to express to you my gratitude and appreciation for our relationship for the past 4 years and look forward to many more.
All the best

Carmine Appice
check slammusa.com
we are playing your timbale
Carmine has put together a dynamic, explosive physical drum show called SLAMM. Described as 'Stomp on steroids', Appice and 4 young drummers rule the stage and make rock music playing buckets, sticks, oil cans, drain pipes, even Dixie cups, as well as drums. The cast of 4 vibrant, young guys and girls have been relentlessly coached and rehearsed by the cool, rock star veteran, creating a flawless, electrifying theatrical show. SLAMM performed 7 packed shows to delighted audiences in NYC, as special preview performances before they expanded the show nationally, to include such venues at the Dunkin Donuts Arena, and the Providence Performing Arts Center.
SLAMM currently stars in a big budget promotional video for ESPN, in which the SLAMM cast 'plays' the NASCAR garage to a custom SLAMM-composed Nascar theme song. This video is played every week on ESPN's Nascar television broadcasts and is seen by over 3 million people per week.

Hi Guys, I am now in Tokyo as many of you know with Cirque Du Soleil's newest creation ZED, the show is located at Tokyo Disneyland in a beautiful new 2000 seat theatre. We have been in the midst of the soft premier, and the shows have been going very well with good attendance and very fun audiences.
Along with the show, us in the band have really begun to have fun and start to explore each others musical backgrounds. Our bassoonist Paul Hanson (Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten, Bozz Scaggs, Eddie Money and many others...) and myself have been doing some fum jams and videos, some of them can be seen on my YouTube page at:

So Alex Solca from Modern Drummer came out and snapped a couple of really quick pictures amidst the chaos and craziness at the Drum Channel while I did my hour long HD Video jam session doing double drums with Terry Bozzio. Terry also sat me down on the couch for an hour interview and the whole session came out incredibly well...
Terry Bozzio and everyone at the Drum Channel dug my playing, attitude and demeanor so much that it looks like I am going to be a regular fixture on the Drum Channel. That means I'll be returning many more times to give master classes, duet drumset performances with many other big drummers of my choice, band performances and just about anything else I can think up all on HD Protools and HD Video which is a creative drummer's dream come true...
I am finishing out my current 5 week US Tour this week and am getting back in time to track 7 full length albums before jumping to Europe a couple times. The first is a one-off hit doing the Prog Power Fest early October with one project and then the other is a 13 country tour with another all of November. After that, I'm embarking on getting my own website updated with my own subscription video service besides hitting Lincoln Center playing jazz, hitting BB Kings playing rock with one of the Transiberian Orchestra guitarists and being featured in SickDrummer Magazine and on SickDrummer.com's Hall of Fame...

HI Everyone!
I wanted to let you know how everything went for my first all day intensive percussion workshop. It was fabulous and so much fun!! I had six students plus Joanne who flew down from Oregon. My private student David Smith donated a class which I gave to my student JoJo who I teach at the Braille Institute. I called it the "Attraction Scholarship" because when we give we always are blessed in return.
We not only covered both foklore and contemporary rhythms, but also learned the dances. I had everyone dancing Cha Cha Cha, Pilon and more. Ricky did wonderful with the Haitian Folkore and also gave a shekere made by him for the raffle.
I made two huge bowls of Aroz Con Leche that everyone claimed to say they could eat the whole bowl. Next time will be even better.
Thanks again to my endorsement companies for your support Rhythm Tech, Remo, Sabian, Vic Firth, Hansenfutz, DW, David Chaus (SWRF), David Smith, Kris Russel, mom and Abuelas recipe!
Till the next one!

Joe Smyth
here's some PR about what I've been doing when I' not "on the road" with Sawyer Brown. We just finished our summer tour with a 6-week stint out west.
Wow!
Matrix Percussion Trio Completes School Performance Series
The Matrix Percussion Trio has recently completed a 2007-2008 series of school performances in greater Nashville area schools. The trio has played 33 concerts at 31 schools, for a combined total of more than 12,000 students. Their presentation 'We Are the World: Percussion around the Globe' showcases the music of diverse cultures from around the world, providing an insight into the unique musical aspects of these cultures, and giving a greater understanding of how certain percussion music and instruments have developed as a result of slavery, oppression, and conquest.
The Matrix Trio's appearances were funded by a national grant from the Zildjian Family Opportunity Fund. The Zildjian Opportunity Fund is a permanently endowed trust, managed and administered through the Percussive Arts Society. Its purpose is to provide funding for percussion-based interactive events directed to underserved youth, ages pre-school through high school. The performances were additionally funded by the American Federation of Musiciansí Performance Trust Fund, administered by Local #257 of Nashville.
Joe Smyth, Scot Corey, and Todd London founded the Matrix Percussion Trio in 2005. Since that time they have performed for local schools, the Young Scholars' Program of Williamson County, the Tennessee Arts Academy, Belmont University, and the Blair School of Music. For more information, visit their web site at www.matrixpercussiontrio.com.

Rich's indie / folk / pop / rocker pal (and new Nashville resident) Jon Roniger's single 'Only Human' from his 'Charmed Life' disc has enjoyed top ten status at www.nim.com for several weeks as well as some sweet spins on BBC Wales and BBC Scotland. Hi -
I hope everyone's having a great summer.
Just a quick update...
I played drums on the biggest song of the summer: Katy Perry's hit single, "I Kissed a Girl", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 7 weeks.
I've been in the studio recording drums for Alicia Keys, who's starting preproduction on her new album.
I played drums in a "live-in-the-studio" performance with Joss Stone, which was recorded and filmed as part of a documentary she's part of.
I'm drumming in some video promotions for the new online music source, Pandora.com
I also have some extremely sad news.
Hiram Bullock passed away last month. I joined Hiram's band when I was 20 ... he's the person responsible for bringing me to NYC. He was an amazing musician, and was a major figure in my life ... as a musical mentor when I was young, as well as remaining a very close friend for the past 20 years.
There will be a memorial concert for Hiram on September 9th, at the Cutting Room, in NYC, if anyone is in the NY area and wants to attend.

Here's some news.. I played w/ the Southeast Symphony, (based in Los Angeles) on July 20 at Disney Hall, the home of the L.A. Philharmonic.
We played the music of George Gerswhin: An American in Paris, Cuban Overture, Rhapsody in Blue & Porgy and Bess.
The symphony was comprised of 86 musicians... there were 6 percussionists... and 20 vocalists (lead & chorus) for Porgy and Bess.
The sound in Disney is amazing.

It's been a little while since I've given you an update of what's been going on.
I've been playing drums and percussion for Grammy-nominated Sarah Kelly for the past couple of years, and this summer has been quite busy on the road. Besides traveling within the States, we've recently toured in Iceland, Sweden, and Norway. The summer music festivals over there are great. The one in Norway was called Seaside, it is the second largest Christian music fest in Europe.
We head out again in 2 weeks. This time to Madrid, Spain; Estonia, and then play the largest Gospel music festival in Europe, located just outside of Amsterdam, called Flevo. Last year we played to 10,000 people there! Our show was actually filmed and a DVD was just released a few weeks ago!
Other than that, when I am home in LA, I am busy with my new band, The Heavy Steadies. We've set some shows up at the House of Blues, the Derby, and some other clubs in LA and San Diego. (Our next show scheduled is Aug. 21 @ HOB in the Perish room.) We've been in the studio lately, and we're talking about doing a live record. I am also recording for other artists that our singer, Dave Lichens, is producing.
And... the fun stuff - I'm not sure if I told you this before, but I've been placing an RT True Colors tambourine on top of my kick drum, both live and in the studio ... groovy.
Talk to you soon,
Adam

Daniel de los Reyes
DrumJungle producer Daniel de los Reyes recently was invited as a very special guest to take the stage playing percussion at the beautiful Red Rock Casino with music legend Peter Frampton to an enthusiastic outdoor crowd. Daniel recorded on Peter's 2007 Grammy award-winning "Fingerprints" CD which was voted Best Pop Instrumental Album and was honored to perform live with the band heating up the already hot Las Vegas stage with his percussion talents when his schedule allowed last Friday night.
In addition, DrumJungle is pleased to announce an upcoming television performance with Daniel de los Reyes at the famous Abbey Road studios performing with Sheryl Crow airing on the Sundance Channel. ...

I've been flying all over the East coast, starting with an Orleans show in Sanford FL, on Friday, then up to Rhinebeck, NY, for a day-long show yesterday with Rock & Pop Masters (www.rpmconcerts.com).
I recently flew out to LA to record Barry Manilow's newest release. Lots of sessions in the studio in Nashville, too, as well as an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, which was fun. So, my networking has started to pay off!
Stay in touch.

I've been touring for so long, but I'm taking a little break with the touring for awhile to focus on a couple of really cool projects. So much to catch you up on.
I moved to Las Vegas recently and I've been playing my show three nights a week at a brand new nightclub here in Vegas called Puff. It's been really cool, and I was nominated for best live Percussion Show in Las Vegas with the Musica Del Alma, Latin Music Awards. I got lucky with that one.
I also started my Spanish rock band with Carlos David, he's Ricky Martin's background vocalist for the past 10 years. The band is called Indigo and we play every Saturday at this place called Agave. We also have been playing at Trader Vics at Planet Hollywood with Indigo, it's a pretty cool project, so I'm excited about it.
Take care

Bruce Aitken
Six rock up for place in hall of fame
By Chris Chilton - The Southland Times | Friday, 30 May 2008
The boys will be back in town in September when the Southland Musicians Club Rock and Roll Hall of Fame salutes six more rock 'n' roll heroes.
This year's induction, at an annual show that is always sold out weeks in advance, will include a trio of former Southland rock 'n' rollers who went on to forge a name for themselves on the international stage.
Bass player Roger McLachlan was an original member of chart-topping Aussies the Little River Band, drummer Bruce Aitken was named "Music Nova Scotia" Musician of the Year in 2004 and keyboard player Neil Sutherland is an Australian award-winning composer of film and television scores.
They, along with fellow inductees drummer Bruce Whitelaw and singer-guitarist David Kennedy, all got their start as spotty rockers playing in Southland bands in the 1960s or 1970s, a halcyon period in the province's colourful musical history.
The Hall of Fame show will feature surviving lineups of the inductees' original Southland bands: State of Mind (Whitelaw), Three Plus One (Kennedy), Tarbet (Sutherland) and Roger's Dodgers with Jackie Cooper (McLachlan and Aitken).
With such a stellar lineup of musos, hard-case characters and hangmen featuring on the bill there's no reason to expect anything less than yet another sellout show at the Invercargill Workingmen's Club on September 27.
Stay tuned, all you born-again rock 'n' rollers.
Bruce Aitken Lands Martime Tour with Legendery Fred Eaglesmith.
Tour Starts Tomorrow in Membertou Sydney. Only found out about this This morning...

Famed Drummer Ryan Hoyle Opens Cave Studio In Los Angeles
Collective Soul / Paul Rodgers drummer Ryan Hoyle announces the opening of Cave Studio in Los Angeles, which specializes in custom drum tracks by Ryan himself. "My concept is to use world class outboard gear to record and export raw drum tracks of the very highest quality providing the very best organic ingredients for the artist / producer to use whatever spices they deem necessary to suit the needs of their particular vision" says Hoyle. "My goal is to be able to continue to record as much as I can with the added convenience of being able to work at home due to my touring schedule and the obvious high maintenance factor of having to travel and route gear all over the place. It's also a great thing to think about the reality that with current technology I can record a drum track for a producer in Tokyo, London, or even Sydney and deliver it to them during a night's sleep. It is my mission to let the world know that even though I play in this band or with that artist, I am still accessible to record on their project too." The studio can also accommodate those who want to engineer / produce their own tracks, offering both Pro Tools 7.4 and Logic 8.
In addition to the vast selection of drums, cymbals, and other assorted percussion Ryan has collected over the years, the studio is equipped with API 3124+, Vintech 473 (Neve Clone), and Apogee Mini-Me pre amps, Apogee Rosetta 800 Converters and a well rounded selection of classic, vintage, and modern microphones.
Ryan extends his non-drumming services as well, including engineering the session himself and offering an FTP server that will allow collaborations and the transfer of files via the internet.

Rich Redmond
Rich Redmond is Guest Artist at Elkins High School
On May 13, Rich Redmond was the guest artist with The Elkins High School Percussion Ensemble in Missouri City, TX under the direction of Bryan Waites. The group is the three-time winner of the Texas State Indoor Drum Line Competition. Rich gave a drum set clinic with an emphasis on practical concepts like "Big Money Beats", "Creating and Nurturing Relationships", "Positive Thinking" and "Goal Setting".
The students performed a diverse program of extremely challenging percussion music with Rich playing a part he adapted for drum set on Bob Becker's "Mudra", as well as Blue Man Group's "It's Time To Start" and a fun free form drums solo in the middle! It was a very positive and rewarding experience for both Rich and the students. "Each generation of students takes the art form 'up a notch'. I was blown away by the level of musicianship and technical ability these young students displayed", said Rich.
This is what Bryan had to say about Rich: "Rich Redmond is an incredibly talented drummer and percussionist. This week, at Elkins High School, we had the pleasure of having him as a guest artist / clinician for our annual percussion concert. The students were all captivated by not only Rich's abilities as a player, but also with the amount of knowledge that he shared with them. Rich's positive outlook and superior performance skills made for an incredibly, educational and entertaining clinic!î"Check out Elkins High School Band here:
www.elkinsband.org
Big thanks go out to Sonor, SABIAN, Rhythm Tech, Remo, Promark, Hansenfutz, Qwikstix, Grover Woodshed Percussion and Audio Technica for sending fun stuff for the kids!

Rich Scheduled to be Keynote Speaker at Art Institute Event
Tuesday, May 27, Rich will be a keynote speaker at The Art Institute Of Tennessee, 100 Center View Drive, Nashville, TN, 37214 (866-747-5770) www.artinstitutes.edu/nashville
The event will be hosted by Music Faculty member Dan Walzer. Rich will be speaking to a group of music and engineering students about "Success in the Music Industry". "Dan asked me to cover topics such as setting goals, developing a strong work ethic, establishing and nurturing life long relationships, developing a broad knowledge of musical styles, staying up on current trends and technologies, as well as specific issues related to musicians and engineers specific to the Nashville music scene. More importantly, he just wants me to be personable and share my experiences in the form of fun stories from my experiences on stage and in the studio over the years. This is going to be a fantastic experience and is something I would like to make a habit of", says Rich.
Rich is currently developing a new clinic concept he is calling "The Working Drummers Crash Course". The word CRASH being an acronym for "Concepts - Relationships - Attitude - Success - History". Rich will be available to present this unique workshop at music stores and colleges.
Rich's Recent Session Projects
In "session world" Rich has recently recorded with Gary Burr, Victoria Shaw, John Edwards, Garrett Paris, Caroline Cutbirth, Jennifer Wayne, and Jeremy Popoff. "These are all world-class writing and performing talents and am proud to call them my friends. Cutting with Jeremy and AJ (Popoff) was a real thrill because I am such a huge fan of their band Lit", says Rich.
Rich recently recorded tons of tracks with a cool young band called Hot Chelle Rae -- myspace.com/hotchellerae). The band was recently signed to A&M Records and will be Maroon 5's label mates. Rich looks forward to tracking more with this talented band in the near future! Click here to get a peak at Rich recording with Hot Chelle Rae:

Kalani
World Percussionist, Kalani, recently played for the Olympic Torch relay in Canberra, Australia. Security was high as throngs of China supporters showed their enthusiasm for their home country's hosting of the Olympics. Protesters made their messages clear with floating banners and signs, but fortunately for the event organizers, performers and runners, it was a peaceful day. Kalani and other percussionists played for both the beginning and ending of the 3.5-hour torch run. The run ended with a community drumming group, led by Kalani, as Ian Thorp ran the last leg to massive cheering crowds, eventually lighting the Olympic cauldron. Kalani was in Canberra in April as part of the World Rhythms Festival, a 5-day educational event at Australia National University under the leadership of Gary France, ANU Director of Percussion. hey everybody - just wanted to send you a quick email. The Karizma tour here in Europe is all the way happening. I don't remember having to "work" this hard on the road - lol. It's great though to really get to play! I'm probably doing between 2 and 4 drum solos a night! Makes me think that the 80s are BACK - lol! But I really am enjoying the creative and physical activity from so much playing with a killer lineup. We just checked into our hotel in Paderborn, Germany, and we began rehearsing for the Paderborn Drums n' Percussion Festival in the morning. I met Danny Gottlieb tonight, and hung out with Tal Bergman and Gregg Bissonette for a while. I've never been around so many drummers in my life! The itinerary is way too thick though! ... Again - thank you for everything! Take care, good folks!
Forrest
hey good folks - just wanted to let you know that my first ever drum festival appearance / performance went off without a hitch!! It was a great time, and I was basically getting my workout the past 4 days running up and down 3 floors invading everyone's clinics / classes. David Garfield really stood up for me and finagled me into an already set roster for the festival and Greg Bissonette and I had a a blast playing together. Each of the 3 songs we did together (w/ Lenny Castro on percussion) was really locked in and the groove was there. Word is that there will be a dvd release of the festival, so that's kinda cool too. So - there it is. Well, it's 2am now and the band (Karizma) has to get back to the tour, so we head to Milan, Italy early this morning. Gotta hit the sack! Take care, and blessings to you!!!

Taku Hirano
I recently finished up the first run of Bette Midler's show, "The Showgirl Must Go On" at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Midler has taken the place of Celine Dion at the Colosseum Theater and is in rotation with Cher and Elton John for the next two years. We start our next run from June 24 - July 20.
On time off in between the monthlong runs I keep busy doing session work both behind the mic and behind the console. Most recently I did a remix for the Classical group, The Ahn Trio (Sony BMG) and performed with them in NYC for their CD release concert along with DJ Spooky. I also have been in the studio playing on some film scores and am about to start work co-producing a remix project for Grammy Award-winning New Age pioneer Kitaro for DOMO Records. Through my production team, Tao Of Sound, I have an electronica sample / loop library soon to be released on P5 Audio as well.
On the education front, I have a few clinics coming up. I will have one on May 17th at Guitar Center in Murietta, CA., as well as upcoming ones in June for the Sonny Emory Drumset Camp in Atlanta, GA., the Naples Percussion Summit in Naples, FL. in September, and as a featured clinician for PASIC 2008 in Austin, TX. in November. Also, starting in the July issue, I will become a contributor to DRUM! Magazine in its Practice Pad section, giving monthly lessons, tips, and exercises on hand percussion.

This is the first of 8 parts and is a Lead into the whole interview. David has made a great job of the footage.... so sit back and enjoy the ride... share some of my memories, and hopefully you might learn something about me, my past, my family my future.
Thank you for taking the time to view this. Please check back periodically to see more segments.
Davo will be in Cape Breton to film Ed Mann and myself in performance at the Drum Festival and to interview as many of the drummers / percussionists as possible and is making a short documentary about Cape Bretons and one of the worlds Premier drumming events...

I just wanted to update you on happenings. I am not sure if you are a fan of Tower of Power but I grew up listening to them and practicing their songs as part of my daily routine and now I am very fortunate to be playing some of these TOP tunes with some of the original members.
I have been playing with Greg Adams (trumpeter / arranger) from TOP for 3 years now and he recently formed a new project called East Bay Soul which includes the original singer from TOP, Lenny Williams as well as former alumni horn players Tom Scott, Lee Thornberg and Johnnie Bamont. Eric Marienthal will also be joining us on some dates when he can.
To be playing "What Is Hip" and other TOP tunes with these guys is surreal to say the least. I am like a kid in a candy shop!
In case anyone is interested in hearing this band, we will be doing dates this summer as we are starting to book a tour now...
Hope all is well and here is a link to the band...

Dear friends,
Here are a few links to some videos I thought would be nice to share with all of you. They are videos from the massive concert we just played a week ago in the border of Colombia and Venezuela as a call to peace between nations and the area. It was a very emotional day for all of us because of the cause of the event. We all out a great amount of energy and positive vibe into this project. I played for 5 hours straight with all the artists that were convoked that afternoon and still ended with a big smile on my face. I hope you can take a few minutes of your time so you can see what I mean about this being a special day.
Best regards to all and as always, my biggest thanks too.

Steven Wolf
Hello...and Happy belated Easter / Spring Equinox to everyone -
I haven't sent out an update in a while... just wanted to let everyone know some of what I've been up to:
I just filled in for Shawn Pelton on Saturday Night Live (March 15th)... I've played on the show before with a musical guest (Annie Lennox) and once as an actor (I played a drummer in a sketch... that was a real stretch), but this was my first time drumming in the house band...
I played drums, percussion, and did production on the latest Avril Lavigne single, "Hot"...
I also produced a dance remix of "Hot" (the aforementioned single), and she's performing my remix version of the song live on her 2008 tour...
I also worked on other tracks on Avril's album, including the 1st single, "Girlfriend", which was a #1 hit all over the world...
I produced a remix for a Johnny Cash remix album which is being overseen by his son, John Cash Jr. I'm also featured in a DVD on the making of the album, where I'm interviewed in my home studio.
I played drums, percussion, and did production on Leona Lewis' debut album, "Spirit". For those of you who don't know who she is yet, she recently broke the record for fastest-selling debut album of all time, in the UK, where she's already a huge star. (She won "X Factor" which is the latest incarnation of American Idol over there) Her album has already sold over 2 million records worldwide... Her debut single was just released in the US, and is already a top 10 hit here (should go to #1 soon), The album will be released in the US in April.
I did production and programming on the Sugababes' (another huge British act) new album, including the 1st single, "About You Now", which was a #1 hit in the UK this summer.
I just did some drumming in the studio for producer / artist Mark Ronson, who recently won the Grammy for producer of the year... (he produced Amy Weinhouse... and many others).
I played drums on upcoming debut albums for new artists Katy Perry (Capitol) and Tina Parol (Universal).
I'm still writing my electronics column, "Digital Domain", in DRUMHEAD magazine... which just celebrated it's first year anniversary... and is going very strong...
hope everyone's doing great... and hope to see you all soon...
best,
Wolf

Hi guys ... This summer, I am going to be producing and hosting a talk show called "Groove Masters". It is going to be both entertaining and educational. We will be having guest artists like Liberty Devitto, Will Calhoun, Hank Jones and yes, myself doing interviews, Playing, and sharing some tips. We will also have a fitness segment with drummer / certified trainer George Gray and nutrition tips from bassist Stanley Banks.
Our initial broadcast area will be in Brooklyn, New York. We have already gotten agreements to broadcast in Manhattan and Queens. This will be produced at the studios of BCAT (Brooklyn Community Access Television). It is our hope to refine the show and get it on to major networks.
I am inviting you all to submit emails with questions that you would like to have asked of our guests. Please send your emails to me. This will help me in making this the most informative show for drummers and other musicians as well. I will post the airing date of the first show here.

Kenny Aronoff
This week, Rhythm Tech Artist Relations Director, Pam caught up with Kenny at LaVeLee... he was playing with a fun blues band.

it was the bass player's birthday... "Happy Birthday To You..."

Note... this is a transcription from audio done at the end of the gig, with lots of folks interrupting to say good nite... :
"... Started off December after Christmas - I flew out here (Los Angeles) on the 26th, from 3 days working with this killer band called 'Like A Storm' - kinda ala Zeppelin, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Bon Jovi ... you know, 'cause of the melodies.
Then I went and did ... let's see... so many records I've done... I've done this girl, Sarah Thiele .. I did that up in Sedona. Great keyboard player, singer, songwriter, amazing... like a Norah Jones with a blues but rock / r&b thing ...
I did a Walter Trout record, a great blues artist. 16th album...
And the thing about all these records I've been doing lately is I've really stretched out and tried to be as diverse as possible with the grooves and beats, kinda out of the box, trying to stretch the album out ... See, a lot of times, these singer-songwriters or these artists tend to write the same rhythm, the same kind of approach to writing a song - so my job is to try to ... I try to stretch it out and give them diversity on the album.
I did the Grammy's with John Fogerty, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. I did another show during the Grammy's with a whole bunch of different artists
I did a Brent Lundy session (a new artist out of the Carolina's). I did a session with Jon Peter Lewis - he was a runner-up on American Idol, an incredible record that's really great pop rock songs. I did his whole record. About 3 years ago he was one of the main guys in American Idol ... incredible singer. I've been working on Rob Thomas' solo record with Matt Serletic ... and Matt also has me on a new record. They're calling it Project X, but it's 2 guys and 2 girls ... incredible songwriters. I've been doing that record ...
Doing some American Idol stuff, some songs for American Idol ...
Did a whole bunch of stuff in January... did J R Richardson, who's the singer from Dishwalla ... I did his new record.
I'm going to go to Nashville to do a Platinum Recording Artist - Jake Owen. I'm doing his new solo record. I'm going to Houston Rodeo with John Fogerty and then I'm gonna go tour Austrailia for 2 weeks with John Fogerty.
Did a couple other artists ... people who send me their DVDs / hard drives and I record their stuff, different people from ... one guy from Canada, another guy from Atlanta, and I did a whole German record that way ... where they sent me the DVD ...
And I'm starting an artist tomorrow by the name of Leah, a german artist. I'm doing her whole record tomorrow ...
So I've been pretty busy for a time where recording is tough. What I'm trying to do is to convince people not to record in their home studios, but to go to studios and get great engineers and great studios and get... I personally think I perform better in a recording studio with an engineer ... and at the very least if I can get a bass player that'd be great. And that's something - a football player plays better on a real football field rather than like in anything other than that - and that's what I'm trying to push. Everybody's very very responsive and receptive, too. They think it's great, because my feeling is that you can't score goals if you're not on the field. You're on the bench! What you wanna do on a bench!? I'm not a bencher... I'm not a bench-warmer. I like to be on the field. You know. It's not all about money, it's about what my love is and my love is playing drums and being a musician ... "

Greetings:
I am happy to say that the trip to London, England with Sheryl Crow went really well and we were able to do some fantastic events. We performed on the Jools Holland T.V. special which aired on BBC, we did a concert at SCALA and filmed and recorded a live performance at the famous Abbey Road Studios which will air at the end of the month. I am very blessed to have been given this great opportunity. Down below are two links that show the Jools Holland show and underneath that there is a link to the SCALA concert on Youtube. I hope you like and enjoy them.

Gonna have some good shows coming up, and we're also going to Mazatlan in the middle of March.

HI Peoples!
My first day of class at the boys and girls club was spectacular!
It was a great day of food, drums and dance! That's right, even dance... lol..
After class, we had a jam session. My dear friend Gerson had his friends playing bass, guitar and trumpet. Then we ended with a Fun Comparsa Jam where my mom led the whole class into a Conga! She choreographed the whole session!
Leroy Chase (Director of the club) and his family participated with such warmth and sincere appreciation of Cuban music. They gave me some pretty roses as well.
I'll be sending some pictures soon.
Thank you to all my dear friends that came out and supported: Ricky Carrido, David Mora and Margaret Chacon. Thank you to all my endorsement comapnies: Remo, Sabian, Vic Firth, Rhythm Tech, Hasenfutz and DW.
This was a beautiful day to remember and I look forward to more.
We will continue Rumba Class every Saturday. Hope to see some of you there!
Much blessings!

Just sending out a 2007 update to you.
Another year filled with a variety of special and exciting playing opportunities.
The year started out with an invitation to audition for Angelique Kidjo. Iím sad to say that I didn't get the gig, but it was a honor to have been invited ....... .and next time .....!!!!
I performed at Lincoln Center (Avery Fisher Hall) at a sold out fundraiser for 'HASC' (totally sold out, with top ticket prices $750) and they recorded the concert and released a DVD from the concert. What a wonderful feeling it was to play the stage where I'd watched Miles Davis, the N.Y. Philharmonic, and many others perform while growing up.
Now there is news about the recording I did with Lou Montelione (a funk / jazz CD recorded in the 'A' room at Quad Studios for JazzHeads Records with renown engineer Bruce A. Miller on the sliders). Lou's first album featured John Stubblefield and was well received and, so, people are looking forward to his sophomore effort. The label has slated release of this album for May 2008 and we hope to play some festivals to support it's release.
On the opposite end of the musical spectrum, I did some hard rock recording with A & R Select artist and Award wining poet Dave Karais. I'll let you know what comes from the demos.
Then to round things out:
I have done some subbing as drum set instructor at York College.
There has also been concert work on the oldies circuit, again. I'm one of the Musical Directors / Conductors (and drummers) for The Chantels, and Iíve backed Kid Kyle and Frankie Ford ('Sea Cruise', etc.) in numerous concerts.
'Great Googley Moo': I did the Equity Showcases for this play, featuring numerous Broadway and film veterans working to bring this show to Broadway. I was also the Assistant Musical Director. Of course, in the path of all plays - raising funds. To help address that problem, one of New Jersey's most venerable theaters absorbed much of the cost of a reading, where producers could come and see the potential in this play. As a result, that theater, The Crossroads Theater, had scheduled the play for a run in March / April 2008. I've just found out that the run is being re-scheduled (what else is new?!). So weí'e still moving forward and excited about it.
There was a special night of music when I performed with Asha Puthli at an 'Art after 5' concert at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Their roster of guest artists made me humble to have been a part of their Festival. Aziza Miller (from Natalie Cole's group) was on piano and Jason King (head of the Clive Davis School of Recorded Arts) ran and jammed on computer tracks. Her 30 years in the music and movie business makes for an exciting event whenever we play together. After all, she has worked with Ornette Coleman, Sean 'Puffy' Combs, Teo Macero, Andy Warhol, and Bollywood!!!!!
Besides those events, I'm always as busy as possible teaching and playing Jewish concerts, theater, blues, rock, funk, jazz, Classic Rock, fusion, and club dates - percussion or drum set, when the phone rings, I'm HAPPY!
Till next time!
Roy Weinberger

2007 in review:
401 gigs / sessions. That's the most ever for me in a year.
More of those gigs were on television then in previous years.
A couple dozen records (Records - NOT Demos).
WAY more travel dates (SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, LA, Seattle, Portland, EVERY state in the Southeast..... & CUBA!) sorry no cigars
2007 was by far my busiest year ever and my most profitable.
I think the coolest thing though was seeing so many people that I work with get deals this year.

It was a great year for my artists.
They are the stars of tomorrow, and it's wonderful to be "in on the ground level ".
It's also good to occasionally work with the people that YOU know (Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Cindy Morgan, 3 Doors Down, Chuck Cannon) Thanks to Muzik Mafia I even played with Bobby Brown and Dee Snyder on the Gone Country TV show.
The songwriter community has responded well to the hybrid percussion / drum set up. (Djembe, Kick, Hand Snare, Hi-Hat, Cymbals, Tambourine, Auxiliary Percussion) People are hiring me specifically to do that thing.
I think I have found my "niche".

Hello everyone,
... I have been working very closely with Toontrack on a new multitrack drum library called Superior 2.0 that we feel will revolutionize people's idea of how absolutely realistic multitrack programmed drums can sound. The drums were recorded by myself, Pat Thrall and Neil Dorfsman at Avatar Studios (Studio A), Allaire Studios, and the now defunct Hit Factory (Studio One, NYC). If you want to check out a preview of the program go to the link below:

Here I am in the midst of my rehearsal for the up coming trip to Edmunton to record a CD with Asani and the legendary Ed Mann ( Frank Zappa).

Its been rather cold here in the east during December, January, but as you can see... with my signature Promarks in hand and man's best mate Bixbie the world famous dog... all's well that ends well....
On Tour with The Irish Rovers
Here is a picture that was taken at the Auditorium in Thunder Bay Ontario on the last night of the Tour. (you can see more pictures in the Images Section) It was an amazing trip and a real privilege to perform with The Legendary Band the Irish Rovers . I have been listening to these guys for the last 40 odd years and it was such a thrill to actually play with them. They are master musicians, and pros, each night was exciting and full of fun. The two original Members George Millar and Wilcil McDowell are a true testament to the wonders of Traditional Irish music, and consumate musicians. Ian Millar has great timing and is a very cool bass and guitar player. John Reynolds apart from being one of the funniest guys I've ever met, is an awesome guitarist, he played some amazing solos... and some pretty mean bass as well. What can one say about Sean O'Driscoll, the multi talented multi musician, plays bazookie, mandolin, banjo and tin whistle, world class.
We played a sold out tour and signed "zillions" of autographs, I think the thing that impressed me most apart from the music and the Irish Rovers themselves was the age range of those attending the shows, from young to old and all inbetween, the Legend grows, the warmth and genuine love of the fans for the band and its music truly amazed me.
Bruce to record with Asani and Ed Mann
I am about to head to Edmonton to record the last Asani CD. Ed Mann is producing and playing on it as well. What an amazing project to be invited to.
Asani are the most amazing vocalists I've ever heard, their harmonies and vocal rhythms are just amazing and send the spirit of music through ones entire being. I first met Asani at a festival in Eskasoni on Cape Breton Island, and immediately invited them to perform at the Cape Breton Int Drum Fest... they sing, and play traditional frame drums.... needless to say they brought the house down and received a standing ovation.
Ed Mann, what can one say, one of life's amazing people, with a wonderful heart and love of good for mankind. I admire Ed not just for his music but for having the courage of his convictions. He has a feel of empowerment about him and is humble yet very wise in so many ways. Musically he's at the top of the tree and its incredible to know I have Ed as a life friend.
Asani, Ed and myself are touring New Zealand in September 2008.

Dony Wynn
One and all,
I'm very happy to announce that in this last year I finally emerged from my six year long self exile. A corner has been turned!!! Life has taken on new purpose and function, which is why I went into self exile in the first place, to realign certain elements under my jurisdiction, embrace new avenues open to me, to be able to take on new projects with renewed enthusiasm and focus. This year past doors kept opening and because of my time in the trenches I was ready for the challenges.
Was a year of firsts, too. Finally got a cell phone (egads!). Started a new band (Knuckle Yummy). Lost a companion (Lily). Worked on several projects with people who inspired me to the nth! Great new friends entered my life. Got to see my entire family after 7 years of not being able to. Surrounded by talented people who totally inspire me.
Consider me back in the slipstream and armed for bear.
And yet another first is I'm announcing today a new website I've built which will demonstrate that even though disappeared from the world, I've not exactly been twiddling my thumbs. Been plowing ahead in my solitude with all the talents under my hood.
With networking so prevalent on the Web now I thought it time to expand my talents beyond Austin borders where I now live. Time to expand the horizons. So I am.
The addie is www.donywynn.com
In there you'll find short stories, photos, songs in which I've banged on stuff, plus a growing catalogue of songs I've produced and mixed, too. Wacky stuff all... far from the norm............
Boy is officially back in the saddle.
Spread the word.

Unique uses of Rhythm Tech products :
Alex Alexander - "I use Rhythm Tech products with guitar effects pedals, creating new sounds never heard before! I also like to have around the kit so i can play them as the occasion arises."
Frank Bellucci - "I play the tambourine & bells with my feet. They are mounted to the foot pedal attachment."
Mike Bennett - "Nothing unusual but I'm learning to always carry a Rhythm Tech Shaker & Hat Trick with me at all times. They always come in handy when adding color and character to a tune on stage and in the studio!"
Brendan Buckley - "I dig using the crasher as a disco hi hat."
CanUnDrum - "... discovered that by attaching The Laptop to the open end of a bucket that we can achieve a snare-like sound allowing us to play it like any "real" drum and thereby keep true to our "un-drum" theme."
Jeff Consi - "I sometimes mic up and use the Laptop for a funky 16th note overdub w/ brushes."
Richard Crooks - "Shakers taped to sticks. Use any hardware including floor tom legs for mounting ... percussion gear."
Adam Culvey - "Let's see... last week I was carrying my Smoky Blue Canz shaker in my back pocket while hauling the solo artists' 120 lb keyboard. When someone asked me, 'hey, I thought you played percussion', I simply shook my rear (in time, of course)." I'm not sure if I told you this before, but I've been placing an RT True Colors tambourine on top of my kick drum, both live and in the studio ... groovy.
Manton Daly - "The active snare system is crisp, brilliant and sensitive. It brings to your snare a warm but clear sound and most of all it has many different pitch ranges. This is one of Rhythm Tecn's best kept secrets. As a drum instructor and an artist myself, it is important to have the best snare system on my snare drums and that is why i switched to the Rhythm Tech Active Snare System, and you should too, and yes you can use it for every style of music."
Kenwood Dennard - "Coordinating shaker instead of a ride cymbal"
John Ferraro - "l like to hold the maraca with a stick to create a LOOP like feel for grooves. Also I use it for latin feels. I love the handle, it is easy to hold, nice balance. The Lap Top is really great for practice, teaching and recording"
Shannon Ford - "Tape a jingle shake to a loose snare drum with the snares off for a nasty backbeat!"
Gigi - "During a percussion gig, I play timbales, congas, bongo, and many of the RT percussion instruments. I find that mounting most of my RT percussion on one cymbal stand via the mounts makes it easy to play as well as to transport."
Paul Gonzalez - "I have a Computer Keyboard placed inside one of my Mountable Gig Trays... which is then mounted to a cymbal stand on my Studio Kit. It allows me to record myself, and be my own engineer without leaving my drum throne!"
Erik Hargrove - "Hitting two shakers together on the ends in rhythmic ways along with shaking them."
Carlos Hatem - "I attached the original hi-hat tambourine ring to a bass drum pedal without the beater for a foot operated tambourine"
Charles Heath - "I sometimes use my tambourines on my toms and snare to get various colors"
Brian Melick - "Stack them so that one sound is sympathetic to the other. Very abstract and unusual"
Voyce McGinley - "I often borrow visual elements from the pandeiro and riq styles of playing to use on my RT tambourines. I also mount a pair of RT tambourines onto a Gajate pedal to add clave, back-beat, or other syncopated accents whenever I play hand-drums. For pedal usage, I cable-tie a pair of RT tambourines together to create greater stability and volume."
Stanton Moore - "I've been using the Englehart stuff in the galactic set up. I've got contact mics on the reco reco and lens drum and am running them through a few different effects (flanger, phaser etc.) they sound killin'."
Cary Nasatir - "I have the Skratcher mounted on my RT Timbales. I also use the Crasher mounted on my vintage Leedy one-piece cocktail set. It subs well for a closed hi hat sound."
Rafael Padilla - " ...i've been using your Tambs for the last 20 years in every session i've ever done, and also on every tour i've done. They're Simply the Best"
Kurt Rasmussen - "The Crashers are great for the "World Style" music of Cirque do Soleil. They're also great for our clown acts! Clowns dig their sound a lot more than traditional cymbal crashes and slap sticks. I love to use them for "Punching The Clown"
Kevin Rice - "I often stuff several Eggz shakers into my left sock for cool shaker effect. Besides being cool shakers the Fruits are also good for a laugh when unassuming folks go in for a bite."
Winston Roye - "I just picked up the RT Pro tambourine. It sounds great! I use it instead of hi-hat for one tune and the extra amount of jingles, and the slightly rubbery top surface makes it mix perfectly through the hat mike."
David Sanger - "The Laptop was perfect for European travel. We showed up at a live radio taping with no drums. Out came the laptop and 'viola!' "
Mike Smith - "Often I play a 16th note pattern on the metal shakers while striking it with the tambourine on beats 2 & 4... & also varying those rhythms. I use the hand held cabasa as well as the mounted one... I spin the handheld w/an up down motion & play another pattern on the mounted one w/ my hand, as well as striking it with a stick or triangle beater to create different sounds / colors. These r just a few things I do. Always trying to come up w/ new ways to get different sounds / textures."
Jason Sutter - "I play the tamb with my feet for acoustic shows as a bass drum... on the floor (no mount)"
Charlie Zeleny - "Taking Eggz shakers and placing them on little egg holders and putting them on display on shelf in my studio for decoration between sessions."
